Hands on Homework

Week 6

We say good morning and good afternoon to each other and all sorts of people everyday. 
The first part of this weeks hands on homewor task is to record yourself saying hello in at least 5 different languages. (try and practice the pronunciation so you can teach us!)

The second part is to find out a little about the people who say good morning in 1 of the ways you have practiced. You can share your leaning however you choose...maybe you could tell us, make a poster, record yourself, make a movie

Temperature Investigation...

Our yoghurt mix ready to go. We wonder if the temperature (cold or warm) will change the flavour and feel of the yoghurt. Will the yoghurt go thick? We put some yoghurt into the yoghurt maker as a control because we know that works!

I-time planning

Wow Owl City! You have made such a great start to planning your week. I love the responsibility you are showing and how you are driving your leaning! You are practising what you need to to reach your goals.

We have been planning our daily maths and reading time all term. It was quite tricky to get everything done because we didn't always have the 'big picture'. Sometimes we would leave our must dos until the last minute but only have a short time to finish them because of R.E and Buddy Class. Now we plan our whole week on Monday.

Have a look at our new weekly plan, this is a preview for next week...
First we put in when we are seeing Kerri, then we add the must dos and if there are any gaps, we put in some can dos.

How yoghurt is made


We looked at lots of different explanations and noticed what was the same and what made them successful. We generated our success criteria from all this thinking.
We had to do some finding out about how yoghurt is made then we planned our writing using the i-pad
WALT: write to explain.

As a class we wrote this together!

How yoghurt is made

Yoghurt is made by introducing good bacteria (like acidophilus) into milk.

Milk is collected from the farmer. It is pasteurised to kill all the bacteria in the milk. When milk is pasteurised it is only heated for a very short time so the milk still tastes the same. 

Next the good bacteria is added to the pasteurised milk. Mix the milk and bacteria and leave somewhere warm but not too hot because the good bacteria will die. Leave the warm milk and bacteria overnight so the bacteria have time to eat the lactose.



The bacteria eats the lactose and makes acid. The acid makes the milk thicken and go sour. This thickened, sour milk is yoghurt.

This is how you make yoghurt. Cool the yoghurt and ENJOY!
